Job Description
Purpose
The Total Waste Manager (TWM) will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of waste disposal and recycling operations. This includes ensuring optimal value for money by working closely with third-party contractors to manage waste removal from the LSS site, as well as coordinating with offsite customers for the disposal of waste through LSS’s onsite incinerator.
The TWM will be tasked with developing and implementing innovative waste reduction strategies, ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations, and promoting sustainable waste management practices across the organization. The successful candidate will bring a robust background in waste management, procurement, and business operations, along with strong organizational skills and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
Develop and implement comprehensive waste management and business plans - Create strategies to optimize waste management operations while aligning with business goals and ensuring sustainability.
Manage waste disposal contracts and relationships with waste service providers - Oversee partnerships with third-party contractors to ensure cost-effective, efficient waste removal services.
Manage waste disposal contracts and relationships with customers requiring incinerator waste services - Coordinate with offsite customers to facilitate the safe and compliant disposal of waste via LSS’s onsite incinerator.
Monitor and evaluate waste management processes and practices - Continuously assess the effectiveness of waste handling, disposal, and recycling processes, implementing improvements where needed.
Ensure compliance with UK and EU environmental regulations - Stay abreast of and ensure adherence to all relevant environmental laws and regulations governing waste management.
Conduct waste audits and identify opportunities for waste reduction and recycling - Perform regular audits to pinpoint areas for waste minimization and recycling, driving sustainability initiatives.
Prepare and present reports on waste management performance and progress - Develop detailed reports on waste management activities, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in waste management technologies - Keep informed on the latest developments in waste management to implement best practices and innovative solutions.
SHEQ Management
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements - Oversee and enforce all relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, including but not limited to workplace organization, work instructions, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and housekeeping practices in line with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Demonstrate commitment to creating a safe environment - Provide clear, demonstrable leadership in fostering a safety-first culture, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a secure and compliant working environment.
Work safely and promote safe practices - Ensure all team members work in a safe and responsible manner, consistently following safety protocols and guidelines.
Follow and implement relevant practices and procedures - Adhere to and ensure compliance with company-wide practices and regulatory procedures related to SHEQ, driving continuous improvement in safety, health, environmental, and quality management.
Commercial
Build and maintain relationships with external parties - Establish and strengthen partnerships with waste disposal service providers to secure the best pricing for site waste management.
Provide competitive quotes for onsite incineration services - Collaborate with the finance department to develop and deliver competitive pricing proposals for customers utilizing the site's incineration capabilities.
