Financial Controller – EU Space, Defence & IO
Home Based – with UK and European travel as required

£70,000 per annum (depending on experience)

As our Financial Controller for the Space, Defence, and International Organisations (IO) sectors, you will play a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of our financial data through an effective control environment. This role ensures that financial information is accurate, reliable, and fully aligned with Serco and UK&E policies, allowing the Senior Finance Team to manage risks and make informed decisions with confidence.
This role is home-based with travel to European regions as needed, requiring flexibility and occasional work away from home to build relationships and support our expanding portfolio across multiple locations. Additionally, you will champion operational excellence by promoting process improvements and driving financial process change, ensuring that the evolving needs of our growing portfolio are met with efficiency and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure the integrity of financial information for the Space, Defence & IO portfolios, adhering to UK&E and Serco policies.
* Maintain and enhance a robust financial control environment, ensuring processes are efficient and consistent.
* Promote operational excellence and process improvement, collaborating with global process owners to drive end-to-end process improvements.
* Lead on strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting within the Europe Space, Defence & IO Sectors.
* Support external audit processes, ensuring timely, accurate data and minimising audit issues.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including UK&E finance, external auditors, and Serco’s BPO suppliers.
* Provide business partnering to overhead budget holders within the Europe Space, Defence & IO sectors.
What You’ll Need:
* Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification with demonstrable post-qualification experience in large, complex organisations.
* Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS 15 and IFRS 16), financial systems, and shared service centre experience.
* Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to interact with senior stakeholders, adapt to different cultures, and translate financial terminology effectively to non-financial audiences.
* Experience: Proven record in supporting process improvements, managing external audit cycles, and delivering change across multi-stakeholder environments.
* Attributes: A proactive self-starter with flexibility and willingness to travel, capable of working under pressure and adapting to changing environments.
