Job Title: EYFS SEND Teaching Assistant

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and resilient EYFS SEND Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic educational team in Poole, Dorset. This role focuses on providing tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) setting. The ideal candidate will be required to assist a child who exhibits challenging behaviour and may have experienced trauma. It is essential that the Teaching Assistant possesses a strong sense of patience, compassion, and the ability to maintain a level head in challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support to a designated EYFS pupil with identified SEMH needs, ensuring their social, emotional, and educational development.
2. Employ a range of strategies to promote positive behaviour and effective engagement in learning activities.
3. Work collaboratively with the EYFS teaching team, SENCO, and external agencies to implement the pupil's individual education and care plans.
4. Offer emotional support and foster a safe, nurturing environment conducive to the pupil's well-being and growth.
5. Continuously monitor and record the pupil's progress, sharing observations with relevant stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach is maintained.
6. Adapt learning materials to meet the specific needs of the pupil, making education accessible and enjoyable.
7. Manage challenging behaviours with composure, utilising de-escalation techniques and following the school's behaviour policies.
8. Attend and contribute to meetings and training sessions as required, with a commitment to personal and professional development.
Essential Qualities:
1. Experience in supporting children with SEND, particularly those with SEMH needs within an educational setting.
2. A patient and compassionate approach, with the resilience to handle potentially difficult situations sensitively and effectively.
3. Excellent communication skills and the capability to work as part of a team as well as on one's own initiative.
4. A sound understanding of safeguarding principles and the dedication to ensuring the pupil's welfare at all times.
5. Ideally, the candidate will hold a relevant qualification in Teaching Assistant or SEND support, although candidates with significant experience will also be considered.
