Main duties of the job A Gynaecology Consultant working in a One-Stop Clinic within the NHS has several key responsibilities, including clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient education. Their main duties include: 1. Patient Assessment & Diagnosis Conducting comprehensive consultations with patients referred for gynaecological concerns. Taking detailed medical histories and performing clinical examinations. Interpreting ultrasound scans, blood tests, and biopsy results as part of a rapid diagnostic process. Identifying and diagnosing common gynaecological conditions, such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, and pelvic pain. 2. Performing Outpatient Procedures Carrying out colposcopies, hysteroscopies, endometrial biopsies, and ultrasound-guided procedures. Providing minor surgical interventions when necessary. Conducting loop excisions (LLETZ/LEEP) for abnormal cervical smears. 3. Treatment & Management Planning Formulating immediate management plans for patients, often on the same day. Initiating medical treatments such as hormonal therapy, contraception, and menopause management. Referring for further surgical intervention if needed, such as myomectomy, laparoscopy, or hysterectomy. 4. Multidisciplinary Collaboration Working alongside specialist nurses, HCA's, radiologists, and oncologists for an integrated care approach. Referring patients to fertility specialists, urogynaecologists, or oncology services if necessary.
