We design, manufacture, and install modular buildings for education, affordable housing, mining, custodial and commercial sectors across all mainland Australian states. About the role:
As a Purchasing Officer you will execute purchasing plans to support sales activities while controlling inventory value. This 6-month contract role involves ensuring compliance with company policies, following up with vendors for timely deliveries, negotiating pricing, and reviewing requisition sheets for distribution actions. Effective communication is crucial, especially when Continuity of Supply is at risk or when addressing queries from other departments. You will also run stock-out reports and liaise with key stakeholders to manage risk items within the business.
The key responsibilities of the role are:
* Execute purchasing plans that align with company policies and processes, supporting business sales activities.
* Follow up with vendors on placed purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery and mitigate delays.
* Negotiate competitive pricing and terms with existing vendors to optimize costs.
* Review requisition sheets to determine appropriate distribution actions across branches.
* Communicate proactively when there is a risk to continuity of supply or when supply-related queries arise from other departments.
* Monitor stock-out reports and provide timely communication on risk items to ensure business continuity.
* Liaise effectively with key departments to coordinate supply chain activities and address any emerging issues.
About the ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate is analytically strong, with excellent negotiation and communication skills. Proficient in MS Office and ERP systems, you have a solid understanding of purchasing policies, supply chain best practices, and data interpretation.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and optimize supply chain processes.
* Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and pricing with vendors.
* Advanced numeracy skills, ensuring accurate data analysis and decision-making.
* Expertise in best practices for purchasing and supply chain management.
* Intermediate knowledge of ERP systems and ability to explain supply chain policies (e.g., inventory vs. demand vs. purchase/transfer) to stakeholders.
* Basic understanding of the S&OP process and its role in supply chain planning.
* Proven experience in Supplier Purchase Order Management and organizational skills.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing or resource sectors.
