Principal Engineer

The Principal Engineer meets all the requirements of the Senior Engineer role and is a respected technical lead and expert with deep knowledge in one discipline in a designated technology discipline/business sector. The role holder will have specialised depth and/or breadth of expertise in their own discipline or function. They interpret internal or external issues and recommend solutions/best practices; solve complex problems; and take a broad perspective to identify solutions.
What you'll do:
1. May set the technical solution priorities for a designated function or team to ensure task or project completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors.
2. Provide technical oversight on creating ideas for new products or services and drawing up plans for a new design.
3. Oversee the realisation of ideas from the initial design stage through to the production and/or installation process.
4. Draw up detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
5. Use mathematical and scientific skills to create workable, real-world solutions to problems.
6. Select the appropriate materials for a new product or a new construction.
7. Calculate an accurate cost analysis forecast for a project.
8. Complete the required technical and regulatory documents.
9. Provide technical oversight and direction on quality-control tests on a new product/system and oversee its construction/manufacture, development and deployment.
10. Maintain in-depth knowledge of their professional engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related professional engineering disciplines.
11. Make decisions and solve problems guided by policies, procedures, and business plans; receive guidance and oversight from the manager.
12. Act as the point of contact for technical escalations that need discipline-specific expertise.
13. Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
14. Ensure projects are completed on-time within the specified budget.
15. Maintain and develop personal engineering skills.
16. Solve complex problems; take a new perspective on existing solutions.
17. Provide technical direction for functional teams and may lead projects.
18. Have specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in their own discipline or function.
19. Interpret internal or external issues and recommend solutions/best practices.
20. Work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
21. Contribute discipline/sector technical expertise to Bid and commercial teams.
22. Act as a mentor for colleagues with less experience.
23. Comply with prevailing QEHS requirements associated with the role.
24. Comply with prevailing Telent values, behaviour, and competency requirements associated with the role.
Who you are:
Key requirements:
1. Minimum HND/BEng Degree level of education, or equivalent experience.
2. Holds the relevant specified/designated Licences/certifications for the discipline/business sector.
3. Computer literate, competent with MS Office suite, Word, Excel, etc.
4. Fully competent knowledge of the quality standards and processes and regulatory requirements applicable to the designated discipline/business area.
5. Competent all-round verbal and written communication skills.
6. Fully proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD specified software.
7. Ability to work collaboratively.
8. Customer-focused and able to deal with internal and external stakeholders.
9. A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions.
10. Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualise processes and outcomes.
11. Commercially aware.
12. Familiar with 3D modelling packages such as 3D AutoCAD.
13. Aware of BIM processes for successful Integrated Project Delivery.
14. Aware of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
