Job Description:
The Trainee Probation Officer Programme offers a training salary of £26,475, increasing to £35,130 upon qualification. A London weighting allowance of £4,249 is also provided. As a probation officer, you can change lives by working with offenders in the community, prisons, and courts. This role allows you to gain a professional qualification with support, along with a competitive salary, generous leave, and great training.
What the Role Involves:
You’ll work as a probation services officer while earning your qualification. Responsibilities include visiting prisons, attending courts, and making interventions with offenders to help them understand their behavior and motivate change. You’ll also work with victims of crime and collaborate with colleagues across the criminal justice system and the wider community.
Skills and Experience:
We seek individuals with emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You should be capable of building rapport quickly and de-escalating potentially volatile situations. Self-management, passion, and commitment to your work are essential. Excellent report-writing skills and experience working with challenging behavior (paid or voluntary) are also required.
What You Need to Apply:
A recognised Level 3 qualification or above (e.g., A level, access to higher education diploma, advanced apprenticeship) is necessary. We offer different learning programmes based on your qualification level, ranging from 15 months for Graduates with a level 5 qualification to 27 months for non-graduates. Successful applications will be assessed to determine the appropriate programme length (15, 21, or 27 months).
