This can be in a community centre, local park or school. The youth work teams will support young people to undertake local project work of community benefit and assist young people participating in youth work programmes to undertake personal development activities. Youth Workers support young people on an individual and group basis to: realise their potential and to overcome the many challenges and barriers that young people face in life, build their self-esteem and self-confidence, consider risk, make reasoned choices and take control of their own lives, develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitment, build the capacity of young people through the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills The Person Ability to engage positively, motivate and encourage participation with groups of young people Ability to act as a positive role model to young people. Awareness of young people’s issues and development needs Able to work as part of a team Good organisational skills Good time-keeper and reliable, prepared to work flexibly Previous experience of volunteering or work with young people is desirable PDA in Youth Work or SVQ level 2 in youth work is desirable Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
