About the role
The Senior Assessor role is crucial in ensuring that only those who fulfil our standards and meet our professional competency requirements become IOSH qualified professionals. The primary responsibility of this role is to verify that assessments of an individual’s knowledge, submitted portfolio, and any professional discussion interview process, is conducted consistently in line with the standards and learning objectives of our different competency levels.
Assessments are critical to the success of admitting candidates to our membership grades and professional registration. For this to be successful there are three core responsibilities of this role: -
1. To ensure inclusive assessments, with fair access and reasonable adjustments
2. To ensure consistent and appropriate assessment standards are maintained
3. To provide recommendations on assessment outcomes to Professional Development and Standards Team.
These activities will be undertaken under the direction of the IOSH Professional Development Lead.

Knowledge
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of quality systems and processes
2. Understanding of educational assessment requirements and processes
3. Demonstrable understanding of OSH sector
Skills and abilities
4. Excellent organisation and planning skills
5. Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to impart knowledge and understanding in others
6. Excellent written communication skills
7. Excellent listening skills
8. Exemplary record keeping and attention to detail, including working to defined processes and conditions
9. Robust IT skills
10. Ability to work and manage the work of others independently and meet agreed deadlines
11. Self-assurance and confidence to challenge and influence others
Experience
12. Demonstrable assessment marking experience, with IOSH or other Institution or Awarding Organisation
13. Evidence of at least 3 years of working in an educational quality assurance role with knowledge of assessment and quality assurance principles
Education
14. Relevant subject expert, qualified to at least Level 6 in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Sector (Essential)
15. A relevant and appropriate assessment qualification, or willingness to undertake a qualification (Essential)
16. Hold Chartered Membership status with IOSH (Essential)
17. Higher level qualification or evidence of further study
