As a Maintenance Technician, you'll have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will contribute the necessary skills and specialist technical support to deliver some of the most challenging surface and subsurface trials and projects in the world. Day-to-day, you will assist in delivering safe and reliable engineering activities, sometimes while at sea; in support of our operational obligations to our customers in accordance with British Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre (BUTEC) and QinetiQ policies and regulations. Your responsibilities will include:
* Operating, repairing (sometimes at a component level), and maintaining electrical and electronic systems to meet BUTEC operational and business requirements
* Drive personal and professional development and maintain a personal record of competence against the BUTEC Training Framework
* Once competent, act as Project Technical Lead (PTL) in specific areas and should be able to deliver small-scale technical solutions to meet customer and project requirements. You may also be required to provide equipment training as a Subject Matter Expert (SME)
* Maintain and complete engineering documentation for one or more systems; adhering to configuration control requirements to ensure the system is compliant with safety, assurance and engineering policy
* Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, Security policy, and any associated policy which QinetiQ chooses to operate in accordance with the Operating Framework
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week and based at our MoD BUTEC site in Kyle of Lochalsh. Whilst routinely operating 0830-1700, Monday to Friday, the operational nature of the role will require significant weekend and night work (once competent) where trials and operational activity dictate. The trials and operational activities last a few days and are conducted at sea. Essential experience of the Maintenance Technician:
* Communication with internal and external partners and customers in high-pressure environments
* Generating technical solutions in alignment with customer requirements to support wider business outputs
* Guiding, developing and leading colleagues in line with QinetiQ Global Operating Framework and BUTEC Training Framework
* Experience of ensuring all engineering activity is carried out to the highest of standards, in accordance with the QinetiQ Operating Framework and report any defect or resource issue that affects equipment availability or operational capability to your Line Management
The British Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre (BUTEC) MOD BUTEC requires a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance Technician, with an Electrical or Electronic bias, as part of our team of multi-disciplinary technicians and engineers., HND/HNC in an engineering or technical capacity (or similar field) OR relevant technical experience in a role where skills are transferrable
* ML5 or ENG1 Seafarer Medical qualification
