Our fabulous Team at our Blackford Service is on the lookout for an active individual with a calm and understanding nature to join them as a Complex Needs Practitioner on a full-time, permanent basis (39 hours per week).
You don’t need previous experience in care as a Support Worker to join our team as we recruit on values and transferable skills. We provide full training along with the opportunity for you to complete your SVQ.
The Role
Blackford is a purpose-built complex of two homes conjoined by a staff area and supports 8 gents with a mixture of Autism, learning disabilities, Downs Syndrome, complex needs and behaviours of concern. Each individual has their own room and ensuite built to their needs and share a communal area, kitchen, activities room and large garden with an outdoor gym.
As a Complex Needs Practitioner, you will assist with all aspects of daily living including meal preparation, medication, going to appointments and activities, managing personal finances, support with moving and handling and personal care. As well as helping the people we support in their own homes, you’ll also provide emotional support and assist them in maintaining relationships with family and friends.
The people we support are all very different with their hobbies and we’ll be looking to you to take an active interest. Their interests include going out for a tasty bite, sensory activities, quiet time on their iPad, relaxing going on holidays, out for walks and to their favourite clubs. One of the gents also attends college and enjoys going out for drives. With your support you’ll reduce social isolation, enable individuals to maintain their independence and grow in confidence.
In our service, we may use CALM which are physical intervention and escape techniques to ensure the safety of supported individuals, colleagues, and members of the public. Techniques include but are not limited to; posture and distance when supporting, understanding triggers and escalations signs along with guiding individuals away to de-escalate situations.
To be an amazing Complex Needs Practitioner, we’ll need you to:
1. Have an empathetic and caring nature.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Confidence in using computers.
4. Be able to work well in a team environment and on your own.
5. Good organisational skills.
Shift Patterns
You’ll be joining a dynamic and lively team that provide support 24/7 tailored support and shift patterns include 7:30am – 10pm, 8am – 9:30pm, sleepover shift from 8am until 8:15am the following day and waking night from 9:30pm until 8:30am. This role is predominantly lone working.
The sleepover part of your shift is not included in your contracted hours so for every sleepover you cover you will be paid an additional £99.20.
