Background and Service
Birchwood Residential Treatment Centre is a 25-bed detoxification/rehabilitation unit situated in Heswall. Birchwood offers detoxification/rehabilitation treatment and support for people wishing to stop using illicit, prescription drugs or alcohol.
We provide both clinical and psycho-social interventions to facilitate the detoxification process and to increase the chances of sustained recovery on exit from the unit.
Birchwood provides detoxification/rehabilitation services to both privately funded and funded service users and uses a therapeutic community model encompassing peer support, mutual aid, life skills, therapeutic interventions, health promotion interventions, and complementary therapies. Our focus is on increasing health and well-being whilst enhancing personal understanding of the relapse process and recovery capital.
The new location will provide up to 15 detox beds and 10 rehab beds. There will be a second rehab worker who will assist in the day-to-day running of the rehab service users, with whom the successful candidate will work to deliver the therapeutic programme.
MAIN DUTIES:
Operational:
* To ensure they are familiar with various issues relating to clients by participating in handovers, accessing Theseus, and consulting with managers and colleagues.
* Maintain a visible presence throughout the period of duty, being available for routine queries from clients.
* To undertake client-facing support e.g., crisis/welfare interventions.
* To provide personal care to clients as and when required e.g., assistance with bathing, dressing, etc.
* Undertake drug testing of clients, if required; to complete any reports relating to drug testing and to inform relevant agencies accordingly. To support clients to external appointments, e.g., doctors, dentist, court, etc.
* To undertake any practical tasks, cleaning/laundry, etc., that may be deemed necessary.
* To identify issues of Child Protection that may arise as a result of contact with service users and notify the Line Manager.
* To adhere to the National Care Commission’s Minimum Standards for Care Homes.
* To recognise and work within personal and professional boundaries.
Therapeutic Delivery:
* Provide structured one-to-one support for rehab service users based on need.
* Plan and deliver therapeutic rehab groups (Relapse Prevention/CBT/SMART recovery/ACES screening & interventions, etc.).
* Assist service users to complete Recovery Manuals/Recovery Plans.
Administration:
* Maintain and update Theseus records for all rehab service users.
* Liaise with onward agencies/supported housing for all rehab service users.
* Communicate with key workers, social services, probation, mental health practitioners, and all necessary community-based professionals.
* Oversee the ordering of prescribed medications.
* To register with local GP and oversee appointments where required.
* Complete comprehensive reports throughout the service user's stay including discharge and midway reporting.
Community Provision:
* Investigate and deliver community activities including gym sessions/IT/Employability skills/Debt Management, Cooking, etc.
* Build relationships with community partners to develop activities for rehab service users.
* Expand and develop the existing rehab model as the business develops over time.
Clinical Interventions:
* Organise testing and treatment when required, leg dressing, BBV testing, Sexual health, etc.
* Safe administration of medications and recording.
* Communicate medical concerns to Clinical Lead, Management, and Nursing staff on duty.
Health & Safety:
Under the provisions contained in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, it is the duty of every employee to:

* Take responsibility for the promotion of Health & Safety regulations as are appropriate to this area of work.
* Co-operate with Kaleidoscope Project as far as necessary to enable them to carry out their legal duty.
Marketing:
* Market the new rehab service via email, social media, and brochures.
* Update Birchwood website with rehab/day rehab services.
Other Duties: If rehab numbers are very low (1/2), or there are no rehab placements in the unit, the rehab coordinator will be expected to assist the wider team with the therapeutic program for our detoxification clients. This will involve group work/One-to-ones/Counselling/Taking very stable detox placements out on activities, etc.
