Lead Consultant - Forensic Psychiatry - Edenfield
This post is to offer support to the AFS Associate Medical Director. The post holder will have an important role in developing new models of care and operational model to transform forensic mental health services across Greater Manchester.
The Lead Consultant will provide medical leadership to our low secure and women's secure service. It is expected that the Lead Consultant will hold a clinical case load within the women's services, which will depend on whether the candidate wants to work to a 10 PA job or is willing to take on additional PAs.
We are looking to attract candidates with experience of working or being a leader in such services. We also seek someone with good experience of inpatient women's services or specialist women's services such as a PD service, even if it may be in a non-secure setting.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide medical leadership for MDT meetings.
2. Carry out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients on the ward.
3. Support ward-based staff to manage psychiatric emergencies.
4. Conduct patient reviews and lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews, and multi-professional meetings.
5. Be the responsible clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and carry out duties in accordance with the code of practice.
6. Renew and maintain Approved Clinician status according to agreed procedures.
7. Carry out comprehensive risk assessments and participate in the Trust's risk management processes.
8. Provide medical leadership to the inpatient ward team.
9. Maintain a high level of effective communication and work flexibly and cooperatively with other parts of the service including other wards and inpatient units, community mental health teams, services, and primary care.
10. Liaison with families and carers.
11. Complete reports for Mental Health Tribunals with the support of the Specialty Doctor.
12. Attend Mental Health Tribunals or supervise other members of the medical teams in Tribunal work.
13. Assess for use of the Mental Health Act, complete consent to treatment, and authorize Section 17 leave.

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
* MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

£105,504 to £139,882 a year per annum pro rata.
