Project Planner - 6 month contract - Outside IR35
National Grid projects
ROLE PURPOSE
To develop and manage project schedules for projects in the power transmission and distribution industry. This includes managing wider project controls responsibilities such as budget and risk.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Overview
To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will have experience of building, developing, and managing schedules for high voltage substation projects within the UK. This includes a good understanding of the design process and construction sequence.
Technical responsibilities
1. Comprehensive understanding of project control methodologies and associated systems such as Primavera P6, MSP and other systems.
2. Providing a range of project control services including input to the establishing of systems, implementing planning controls, scheduling and prioritisation, monitoring and reporting, and dashboard reporting.
3. Responsible for schedule management and earned value management.
4. Build tender schedules for substation projects, so must be able to interpret drawings and client information and understand the general sequence of construction for HV substations.
5. Build design schedules with the design team.
6. Analysis and evaluation of schedule management involving the critical path of scheduling techniques.
7. Impact analysis of delays and change events, and implementation of agreed Compensation Events.
8. Support the risk management process.
9. Knowledge of relevant industry regulation, standards, and protocols.
10. Developing a thorough understanding of client requirements to deliver appropriate solutions and ability to articulate these to clients.
11. Appreciation and understanding of CDM regulations and working in a “high compliance” industry.

2. Interact with clients and colleagues to achieve project objectives.
3. Able to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
4. Able to work autonomously and/or as part of a project team.
5. Identifying new skills and competencies required to meet business needs.
6. Understand the Company Health & Safety and Environmental (SHE) Policies and Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure the requirements are implemented.
7. Travel and undertake site visits as required.
8. Produce reports or provide information in a timely manner.
9. Maintain own levels of skill and knowledge to do the job effectively.
10. Support our clients and ensure KPIs are met or exceeded.
11. Work with other project controls specialists including those in international offices.
TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS / AUTHORISATIONS
1. Full UK driving licence.
2. CSCS card.
3. Primavera P6 qualification or relevant experience.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
1. Must have the right interpersonal skills and communication skills to build a culture of trust with the project team.
2. Extensive experience working within HV sector.
3. Extensive experience as a Planner.
4. Must have experience of creating schedules for National Grid in accordance with NGET TP 193.
5. The ability to thrive in pressure situations.
6. Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
7. Be able to work on own initiative.
8. Computer literate.
9. Must have commercial awareness and understand the effect of site-based activities on the project financial performance.
10. Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively, particularly to external parties such as the client, their customers, and local authorities.
