About The Role
We are seeking a skilled individual to manage and enhance the biodiversity of our reserve habitats at WWT Slimbridge. You will have the opportunity to work in a beautiful natural setting, lead a dedicated team, and make a meaningful impact on wildlife conservation and habitat restoration.
The Reserve Manager at WWT Slimbridge is responsible for managing the nature reserve, focusing on habitat and species conservation, site infrastructure, and visitor engagement. This role involves leading a team of staff and volunteers to ensure the effective management and enhancement of the reserve.
This role requires a combination of technical and practical land management skills and knowledge of the ecological requirements of the habitats and species that our found within our reserve. Day to day the role combines land management, fieldwork, team leadership, and public engagement, providing a dynamic and fulfilling work environment.
By effectively managing the Slimbridge reserve, our Reserve Manager plays a vital role in restoring and maintaining our wetland habitat, which is crucial for biodiversity, climate regulation, and water management. You will actively promote WWT’s mission to restore wetlands, educating the public about their importance, ultimately helping to unlock the power of wetlands for future generations.
About You
To join as our Reserve Manager you’ll bring:
A professional qualification in conservation or countryside management; ideally, a degree, diploma or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Extensive experience in practically managing large areas of land for conservation, including developing and implementing management plans and monitoring programmes.
Great field, technical and record keeping skills
Excellent leadership skills to manage and support your team of colleagues and volunteers.
Engaging communication skills so you can share your passion for nature and wetlands with the public through guided walks, talks and events
A full driving licence is essential for the role and occasional travel to other WWT sites will be required.
