Job Description:
Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Systems Engineer on a permanent basis working at our modern and purpose-built Lincoln site. The Systems Engineer will need to be a proactive and highly experienced systems engineer, familiar with working within an Agile development framework to design and delivery RF emitter modelling services for testing Mission Data for use within the defence industry.
The Systems Engineer will have extensive experience of full lifecycle systems engineering, with key focus on requirements elicitation, detailed design, as well as associated test planning, execution, and evidence-based demonstration of requirements and design compliance to achieve certification and acceptance by internal and external assessors. The role requires a strong aptitude for problem solving, an understanding of complex mission data interdependencies, requirements and design inputs as well as independent thinking and the ability to transfer knowledge to less experienced team members.
This Systems Engineer role is within the Integrated Mission Solutions business group and will focus on developing RF emitter models, scenarios and PDW text files for testing mission data on both hardware and software in the loop (HWIL/SWIL) systems.
1. Understand, interpret, and assess the suitability of emitter parametric source data for emitter model production.
2. Consult with EW technical specialist teams to elicit stakeholder requirements and develop your understanding of the EW detection and countermeasure systems that the programming and analysis toolsets support.
3. Use the Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulator (CEESIM) and the Environment, Generation and Analysis (EGA) tool to develop CEESIM emitter models of low, medium, and high complexity.
4. Generate multi-emitter test scenarios for use during HWIL mission data testing.
5. Create PDW text files for use during SWIL mission data testing.
6. Work alongside our customers, end-users and key internal stakeholders to establish current and future needs and requirements.
7. Undertake verification and validation activities to assess performance, usability, and effectiveness of the system.
8. Demonstrate requirements and solution compliance against user and system requirements, and ensure full evidence and traceability exists.
9. Support engineering gate reviews, providing technical input and presenting material when required.
10. Create engineering specifications, reports and presentations for delivery to internal and external customers and industry partners.
11. Act as a focal point for emitter model process adherence and improvement.
12. Provide a positive skills improvement environment for MDS team colleagues.
13. Travel within the UK to meet with our customers and industry partners.
You really must have:
1. Recent, extensive experience of Operational RF emitter model design, development, and programming.
2. A comprehensive understanding of EW Operational Support (EWOS) and the EWOS lifecycle.
3. A firm understanding of the key principles associated with RF signal propagation for passive sensors and active emitters.
4. In-depth knowledge of passive / active EW sensor systems, including signal detection and processing methods to achieve emitter identification.
5. Experience of engineering gate reviews and the associated assessment of engineering design compliance.
6. Experience of executing test and acceptance plans to provide traceable evidence of system performance and functionality against requirements.
7. Knowledge of the tools, data and/or processes used by end-users, such as the teams at the Joint EW Operational Support Centre (JEWOSC).
8. Self-motivated with an aptitude to problem solving and ability to drive difficult issues to conclusion in support of team goals.
9. Ability to assume ownership of a work package; planning and scheduling your own workload and the work of others.
10. Experience of peer reviewing the work of others inside a small IPT and within a sub Engineering Unit and ensuring the resulting actions are implemented.
11. Excellent verbal and written communication / collaboration skills.
12. Experience of collaborating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities.
It would be nice if you had:
1. Experience of Praetorian Defensive Aids Sub System.
2. Experience of requirements management methods and toolsets (ideally DOORS).
3. Experience of collaborating with military end-users (e.g. to provide SME support).
4. Experience of using the Northrop Grumman Environment Generation and Analysis tool (EGA).
5. Experience of managing Electronic Warfare Database (EWDB) data using SitaWare software.
What you'll get:
1. Advanced Technology: You will have the ability to contribute to the development of market-leading product development, providing advanced capability and protection to UK platforms.
2. EW Expertise: Leonardo has subject-matter experts with extensive and detailed knowledge of the EW domain, technology, performance, and operational capabilities - the learning potential is limitless!
3. Continuous Learning: Whether it's EW, engineering lifecycle processes, leadership, or personal development, you'll be supported in your ongoing professional development though training and mentoring.
4. Teamwork: You will work alongside like-minded professional engineers in a highly collaborative environment.
5. Connections: You will be joining an expansive team of around 7,000 people at six major sites across the UK.
6. EW Heritage: We are proud of our rich heritage in EW, with 100 years of pioneering EW development. Today we're providing the latest advances in RF technology and enabling our customers to keep pace with an ever-evolving EW environment.
