As we build the projects that will make the energy transition happen, we’re looking for brilliant Project Development Engineers in our Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit to join us on our journey to develop the electricity network of the future. The Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit is just over a year old, and is the growth engine for future transmission infrastructure investment in National Grid UK.
You'll join SI to carry out the early-stage development of one, or multiple, large-scale projects that will help to make Net Zero happen; you’ll not only support the technical challenges of today but also be at the forefront of developing the network that will help to decarbonise a nation and help to leave our planet in a state where future generations can thrive.
About you

1. An engineering background is essential, Electrical (Power Systems) engineering background or related experience is highly desirable.
2. Experience of the energy sector would be beneficial.
3. Knowledge and experience of early-stage development and optioneering is essential.
4. You are naturally inquisitive, calm under pressure and comfortable bridging the gap between technical and non-technical colleagues.
5. You have great clarity of perspective and can simplify things where others can’t.
6. You can create solid networks with a variety of stakeholders and keep them informed and up to date.
7. You have excellent communication skills and want to work as part of a team.
What you'll do
1. You will be responsible for the early-stage development of one or multiple large-scale projects from initial concept through to assessing and identifying a preferred strategic option; looking into power system benefits and compatibility, digital development of options, system access, project and regional interdependencies and more.
2. Managing the progress of the project(s) adhering to all relevant internal and external policies and regulations ensuring projects are managed to cost, quality and time whilst employing robust risk management processes.
3. Ensure all required project documentation is produced, and governance maintained whilst also demonstrating the implementation of lessons learned and best practice.
4. Fostering a collaborative environment with stakeholders through excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
5. Translate complex issues into language that can be easily understood by those without a technical background.
6. Gathering and synthesising evidence to draw insights and make recommendations.
7. Ability to generate meaningful, concise and accurate reports, including the presentation of key project information.
8. Engagement with digital teams to identify and use available technologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of project development.
What you'll get
A competitive salary of up to £61,000 dependant on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
