This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who would like to develop leadership skills in a large and friendly Acute Inpatient Medicine Therapy Team here on the Aintree site of LUHFT. We are open to those working at a Band 6 level who would like an opportunity for career progression or those already working at a Band 7 level.
There is opportunity to develop skills in a wide range of speciality areas, including cardiology, diabetes, respiratory and general medical wards.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing complex and challenging patients requiring advanced communication skills. Working closely with a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will carry a caseload of designated acute inpatient wards supporting the assessment, rehabilitation and safe discharge of patients.
You will utilise expert manual handling, assessment/rehabilitation techniques and cognitive assessment skills to bring about the best outcomes for this patient group, in line with national guidance.
The successful candidate will take a leadership role alongside other Band 7 team members in relation to safety meetings, recruitment, sickness and attendance management and clinical incident reporting.
You will actively participate in peer support meetings with Band 7's within the team to drive operational management and service improvement in conjunction with Therapy Leads, focusing on optimisation of quality, safety, performance and workforce.
Main duties of the job
This role involves expert discharge planning and rehabilitation of patients including the following aspects: neurological assessment and rehabilitation techniques, cognitive assessment skills, posture management, splinting, fatigue management and anxiety management.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the wider MDT, including social workers, care coordinators, discharge planning, equipment teams and an understanding of equipment ordering systems.
You will contribute to the holistic care of the patient including supporting case conferences, best interest meetings and capacity assessments relating to discharge.
You will have the opportunity to provide training to both OT students and other Therapy students and to the wider MDT and promote the role of the OT.
Day to day tasks include ensuring optimal board round communication and ensuring appropriate referrals into the service.
Senior oversight of a therapy team including aspects such as performance reporting, sickness management and supervision.
Participation in national audit, research and personal and staff development.

* To undertake assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to clinically diagnose.
* Implement evidence based treatment plans with regards to physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological and social functioning.
* Deliver and evaluate treatment programmes according to health care needs using a comprehensive range of treatment options.
* To manage waiting lists and prioritise referrals with own team.
* To advise, assist and educate band 5 and band 6 OTs and Student OT's on the management of clinically complex patients.
* To be responsible for the supervision of Students and Assistants within own team.
* To provide the Clinical Occupational Therapy Specialist/Managers with relevant information for the planning and development of the unit.
* To ensure where necessary the provision of staff cover within own clinical team in times of annual leave/sickness etc.
* To assist the Managers in achieving the departmental objectives and promoting an open style of management.
* To participate in the professional development programme of the Occupational Therapy Department.
* Co-ordinate the effective day to day running of own team and ensure effective dissemination of information.
* To participate in the recruitment and selection of therapy staff under the guidance of Therapy Manager.
