This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide. Keeping Children Safe in Education The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern. About Us The English department is a vibrant and dynamic team offering a wide range of courses, providing all learners with an exciting range of experiences. At GCSE, students follow the AQA specification for English Language and Literature and there is a healthy take up of subjects offered in the Sixth Form. Students follow the OCR specification for A Level Film Studies and EDUQAS for A Level Media Studies. Students study drama from KS3 to KS5 and there is a secure uptake at all levels. Students currently follow the EDUQAS specification at GCSE. At KS5 there are two options for students: AQA A Level in Theatre Studies and the OCR Cambridge Technical in Performing Arts. Both include pathways to university and further training. The performing arts department run a vast range of co-curricular opportunities and workshops, investing time, energy and expertise in the students at all ages. Colleagues contribute to three major productions each year and regularly take students to the theatre locally and further afield. We are hoping for someone who is eager to take an active part in the delivery of these opportunities. We can offer excellent working conditions, and a supportive environment at one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. There are many opportunities for further development through our Teaching School (Dorset Teaching School Alliance). The superb facilities include an on-site nursery and a sports complex with subsidised membership for staff.
