A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Highly Speech and Language Therapist to work across the Learning disability and autism neurodiversity pathway (LDA) here at HMP Birmingham, which is cemented within the prison mental health team.
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are the NHS provider of healthcare delivery for HMP Birmingham and work alongside several partnership agencies.
We have expanded services with focused pathways on Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care and Learning Disability/ASD.
We are looking to recruit passionate Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist on a 12 month fixed term contract.
HMP Birmingham is part of the regional resource for the remand estate in the West Midlands, and is a Cat B establishment, servicing the Birmingham crown and magistrates’ courts. The prison currently holds a maximum of 970 prisoners, with a combination of both sentenced and remand adult males.
We are now looking to enhance our skilled team, with a Speech and Language Therapist to build services for the LDA and Neurodiverse pathway.

Our service has defined structured Mental Health teams in operation and a supportive multi-disciplinary team, made up of Nurses, Occupational therapist, Psychiatrist and Psychologists.
We want to employ a Speech and Language Therapist who has a real understanding for the needs of the prisoner/offender population who can also bring innovation and change to our services. We see these services as a genuine specialism and are offering the opportunity to be part of it.

To provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and advice on intervention approaches consistent with professional standards to adults with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
To work in partnership with stakeholders, e.g. prison officers, carers, education, other health and social care professionals to ensure positive outcomes for adult prisoners.
To develop, deliver and evaluate teaching/training programmes in this specialist area to a range of audiences within healthcare.
To be responsible for leading service improvement and quality assurance of practice in the identified specialist area (SLCN) in collaboration with the clinical mental health teams.
