What to Expect in the Role:
Stratford-on-Avon District Council is recruiting a permanent team leader to head up our Economic Development and Investment team who will lead on the delivery of the Council’s economic, planning and tourism functions in order to promote the District and support inward investment into the District.

Stratford-on-Avon District is home to a highly skilled entrepreneurial and innovative population and businesses and provides the ideal incubator for new ideas to flourish and grow. However, the pandemic hit the District hard due to its significant tourism and hospitality sector which was hit harder than most. Despite the challenging economic times, we are seeking to not only reboot the economy but also grow it, widening existing opportunities, making it more sustainable and less vulnerable and capitalising on our ambitions for a carbon-neutral economy.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
* Overall day-to-day management of the Economic Development & Investment Team.
* To lead on the delivery and review of economic development policy and strategy, including the South Warwickshire Economic Strategy, and to assist in the preparation of other related documents e.g. South Warwickshire Local Plan, Destination Management Plan.
* To work effectively and positively with key businesses, partners and stakeholders to deliver economic development, including Shakespeare’s England, WMCA, Warwickshire County Council and Stratford-upon-Avon Bid. This will include representing the Council at key meetings and events.
* To lead on, and contribute to, as appropriate, the preparation of any funding bids, along with management of grant funding administered by the Council (such as UK Shared Prosperity Funding), and to effectively monitor targets and report outcomes of any programs.
* To undertake research, both empirical or from existing sources, to assist in the formulation and or monitoring of policy (e.g. employment and retail) and to measure the effectiveness of policy against identified objectives.
* To liaise effectively with, and provide policy advice and information to, Elected Members, officers of the council, the public, committees, the development industry and other agencies and organisations.
What You’ll Need:
* Experience of working within an economic development related field, preparing economic strategies and/or employment planning policy.
* Good organisational and research skills, including knowledge of project management techniques.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Able to deal with contentious matters with diplomacy and tact.
* Able to build strong relationships and enthusiastic, positive and can-do approach.
