Syntech Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Officer to provide day-to-day commercial and contract management on major defence contracts. The successful candidate will act as the primary commercial point of contact, playing a critical role in supporting the full project lifecycle from initial enquiries to contract closure. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional with a strong background in defence or highly regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the main commercial point of contact for major defence contracts, ensuring effective contract and commercial management.
Support the full project lifecycle, including:
Request for Information (RFI) / Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs)
Tendering process
Contract award and negotiations
Contract change and performance management
Contract closure
Provide commercial input and support to the sales team for bids and proposals, ensuring commercially sound and competitive submissions.
Lead commercial negotiations with customers and key subcontractors to ensure favourable outcomes.
Ensure Prime Contractual Obligations are effectively flowed down to key suppliers and subcontractors.
Identify, assess, and develop strategies to mitigate commercial risks and capitalise on opportunities.
Represent the Commercial Department in customer and subcontractor meetings.
Provide expert guidance on commercial and legal matters, ensuring adherence to internal governance and compliance frameworks.
Ensure full business compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
Support the Sales Team in managing commercial aspects related to distributor, reseller, and agent agreements.
Conduct Due Diligence and Sanction Screening on third-party representatives.
Develop, implement, and maintain commercial processes, guidance documents, and templates, ensuring adherence across the business.
Assist the Trade Compliance Team in ensuring compliance with UK/US Export/Import regulations.Experience & Qualifications:
Extensive experience in a Commercial, Legal, or Contract Management role within Defence or other highly regulated industries.
Strong experience in drafting, evaluating, negotiating, and managing complex contracts.
A solid track record of engaging with Defence Contractors or other highly regulated entities.
Proven ability to establish and manage strategic commercial relationships.
A general understanding of UK/US Export/Import regulations (desirable but not essential).
