The PE department at Hampton College Secondary Phase is a high performing department and has consistently achieved some of the best Vocational, GCSE and A level PE progress and attainment results in the school over the last few years. It also has an outstanding reputation within the city for its extra-curricular provision, with many success stories for its teams and individual students in local, regional and national competitions. We provide a broad and balanced PE curriculum that can be accessed by all students in ‘Core’ PE lessons. This is supported by a well-planned programme of study with updated schemes of work and robust assessment model. This structure is designed to then provide a pathway for those wanting to develop their knowledge of sports and fitness in exam subjects, with options for GCSE PE and OCR Cambridge National Sports Science in Sport at Key Stage 4 and A Level physical education at Key stage 5.
In addition to the PE curriculum, the department also offers a wide range of enrichment activities for students at lunch times and after school. Some of these are run on a ‘Sport for All’ model that is more recreationally based and others are run for more ‘elite’ performers who may wish to represent the school in competitions. Running alongside this offer are opportunities to take part in coaching and refereeing courses, lead activities in festivals and be part of House and School councils as ambassadors for the PE department.
The PE Department works closely with all other departments and the SENDCo and are quick to support and intervene where necessary.
