The duties and responsibilities of the post holder will be that they are required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to autonomously deliver a high quality radiographic service for a variety of paediatric presentations. Commitment to the out of hours sessional rotation for Main X-ray and/or Cardiac on call service is required.
Responsibilities include:
* To perform all duties to a high standard within the x-ray department including all necessary documentation and patient computer records.
* To fully comply with local rules, professional code of conduct, codes of practice for radiation protection. To ensure that all examinations performed are justified and pertinent in line with IR(ME)R 2017 in order to reduce unnecessary ionizing radiation exposure to patients.
* To acquire diagnostic images and physically position the full range of patient presentations accurately for examinations using immobilization when required.
* Use skills to assess a full range of patient presentations accurately for examination and decide on an appropriate method to obtain a radiograph, adapting standard techniques where necessary.
Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching hospital of the University of Liverpool and has been approved as a supra-regional centre for cardiac surgery, epilepsy surgery and major trauma amongst others. Alder Hey is one of Europe’s busiest children’s hospitals and we care for over 270,000 young people and their families every year.
We are the tertiary referral centre for children from Merseyside, Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, Shropshire and North Wales for many sub-specialties of paediatrics. The hospital has approximately 270 beds including day beds for surgery. The paediatric services and expertise within the hospital are considerable and include paediatric ophthalmology, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neonatology, neurology, neurosurgery, audiology, nephrology, respiratory medicine, oncology, trauma, general surgery and general medicine. The radiology department provides all imaging modalities, including nuclear medicine, CT, MRI and intervention.
We are looking for an adaptable, friendly and enthusiastic candidate who would embrace the challenge of working with children. Previous experience in paediatrics imaging is desirable. Applications from students about to graduate are welcome. Successful applicants with less than 18 months post-graduate experience will commence on a linked band 5 grade to band 6 grade. Progression to a band 6 role will occur after a 2 year period when all paediatric competencies have been achieved.
