Job Title: Senior Occupational Therapist Band: 6 Location: London, Greater London Working Hours: 37.5 hours Rate: Competitive, to be discussed upon application An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to join our esteemed NHS client’s dynamic team based in London, Greater London. This position is available for an immediate start on a short-term contract, offering competitive rates. Key Responsibilities: The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing Occupational Therapy to team clients, offering a maximum of one day duty cover for the team once every two weeks. They will manage an OT caseload for clients with complex needs, using evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions. The postholder will complete standardised assessments using frameworks such as The Model of Human Occupation, and offer manualised interventions like GLOW (Graduated Living Outside of the Ward) and IPEL (Increasing Participation in Everyday Life) to support service users in their transition and discharge. They will provide sensory profiling and interventions for clients with sensory challenges, as well as advising the team on promoting access and reasonable adjustments for service users. The Senior Occupational Therapist will contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of OT services within the Community Team, managing defined projects and engaging with the OT referral process to prioritise interventions. Leadership will be provided to junior staff through supervision and appraisals, and the postholder will supervise OT students on placements, with an expected minimum of two students per year. They will provide professional leadership and clinical supervision to Recovery Support Workers and promote recovery and social inclusion by working with the Involvement Team to enhance service user engagement and co-production. Collaboration with the Employment Specialist to improve the vocational pathway will also be a key focus. The Senior Occupational Therapist will contribute to the development of the Trust OT Service, streamline working processes from admission to discharge, and advocate for the value of occupational therapy in supporting clients to manage the impact of their symptoms on daily life. Finally, they will act as the designated ‘Disability Champion’, leading the team in disability equality matters within the service and other areas as needed. Qualifications and Experience: Degree in Occupational Therapy (BSc or MSc) or equivalent qualification. HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration as an Occupational Therapist. Post-graduate experience (usually at least 2 years) working as an Occupational Therapist, preferably with experience in a mental health setting. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and active engagement in professional learning. Experience in managing a caseload and delivering therapy interventions to clients with complex needs. Supervision or leadership training or experience in supervising junior staff and students (desirable). Post-graduate or specialist training in areas such as mental health, sensory integration, or specific therapeutic approaches may be an advantage. Mental Health First Aid training (desirable). Therapeutic group work or manualised interventions training (e.g., GLOW or IPEL) (desirable). Experience of managing risk in mental health and supporting discharge planning.
