Engineering Manager, Northallerton
Salary: £60k - £80K dependant on experience
Our client is in the process of opening a new FMCG production facility in Northallerton, North Yorkshire just off the A19. They have existing facilities elsewhere in the UK and Ireland and are looking to expand their business. This is an exciting career opportunity for someone looking to lead and shape their own Engineering team within an FMCG environment.
We are looking to appoint an Engineering Manager whose initial role will be to undertake the exciting challenge of leading the equipment commissioning process for the new factory. You will be working closely with the machine suppliers and ensuring a safe and efficient factory fit-out. The ongoing primary function of this role is to lead, manage & develop the Engineering team to deliver an effective preventative maintenance system that ensures minimal breakdown time. Ensure that equipment & premises are maintained to auditable standards & to promote asset & premises care at all levels.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead Maintenance, Reliability, Site Infrastructure, Facilities and associated projects linked to site reliability improvement or wider continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead, manage & develop the Engineering team to deliver an effective preventative maintenance system that ensures minimal breakdown time.
Responsibilities
1. Maintain an effective workplace, leading & driving your team, ensuring; Safety (Food & People) is an absolute priority for your Team & any contractors while designing & completing works.
2. That your ‘People’ are encouraged & that your Teams work scheduling is effective & efficient with regular feedback given through structured & standardized 1 to 1’s to upskill, educate & drive the teams’ skills & work effectiveness.
3. The Engineering Team are consistently abiding by Quality Standards & Protocols (& contractors) & use initiatives to help improve quality standards from people to premises & equipment & product.
4. Ensure that you budget appropriately using factual data & equipment knowledge.
5. Ensure that you appropriately research contracted services/new equipment tenders etc. to ensure that quotations are competitive.
6. You & your team lead the site with respect to resource conservation & environmental impacts.
7. Ensure that you continually verify the effectiveness of work completion.
8. Ensure that staff & contractors practice safe work with permits & safety statements where required.
9. Ensure that there is a robust PM system which is effectively operated & managed for the entire site.
10. Ensure that the site is adapted & maintained to facilitate safety & quality standards are continually maintained.
11. Educate others on optimal resource utilization & to drive & encourage cost saving initiatives amongst own team & cross functionally.
12. Practice an effective Contractor Management Program.
13. Identify continuous improvement opportunities to drive quality, cost, reliability, and safety performance.
14. Able to deliver solid cost and inventory controls.
15. Experience of PUWER, LOLER, COSHH & HACCP with a working knowledge of H&S audits and processes.
16. Possess an Engineering Qualification such as HND, HNC, BTECH or equivalent.
17. An understanding of PLC is desirable.
18. To continually promote future capacity planning & to ensure that any new initiatives consider same.
19. To educate & promote optimal asset care at operator level.
20. To communicate effectively with area owners on a routine basis, in a structured format with a view to aligning on common goals to drive joint improvement initiatives in the area without bias.
21. Strategic thinking skills – develops strategy and long-term plans and objectives for own area/re-designs processes & ways of working to meet long-term objectives.

Our client is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire who produce a nationally recognised product within the FMCG industry. Their premium food product is manufactured on their Northallerton site and distributed to premium retailers and the food service sector across the UK.
