Required to fill two replacement posts within the General Surgical Department, specialising in Thoracic and Upper GI at the Leeds Children's Hospital.
The Leeds Children's Hospital has an annual budget of £61 million, inpatient bed base of 286 beds, and delivers 56,000 outpatient appointments and 19,000 inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of which is on the Leeds General Infirmary site, however, there is a Neonatal unit based on the St James Hospital site. The Leeds Children's Hospital employs a total of 90 consultants providing general, specialist and supra-regional children's medical and surgical services. Inpatient, day case and outpatient services are mainly provided at the LGI.
Additional Children's Services provided in Non-Paediatric Specialities
Services for children are also provided within a number of other specialities. These include dermatology, orthopaedic and spinal surgery, ophthalmology, dental surgery, maxillo-facial surgery, accident and emergency, ENT, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, renal transplant surgery and clinical genetics.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess MB BS/FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in and its related specialties including a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric urology.
Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training in paediatric urology. Previous experience of interest in the subspecialty of stone disease.
A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
To deliver care to patients with paediatric Thoracic and Upper GI conditions at the Leeds Children's Hospital.
Sub-specialty interest of Thoracic and Upper GI with specialist clinics and theatre lists for this purpose.
Out-patient clinics - in Leeds and DGH around the region.
Operative lists.
Supervision of patients.
Care of in-patients on an on-call 1:4.5.
Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Children's Hospital and across the Trust.
To work with colleagues in Paediatric General Surgery to deliver acute on-call. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.
To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Paediatric Surgery department.
The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs ongoing in the department.
