We have a great opportunity for a Technical Manager to join our team within Vistry Kent, at our Kings Hill office. As a Technical Manager you will be able to demonstrate a practical and pro-active approach to design development, working within a team environment from the project's inception through to its completion.
Reporting to the Associate Technical Director and ultimately the Technical Director you will be tasked with the control of the complete design process involving the management of consultants, management of design input from other external parties, liaison with the relevant statutory and local authorities, including liaison with Clients and Client's representatives. You will take the lead on material selection / approval, commenting on construction detailing, checking consultant and sub-contractors designs for buildability and compliance with statutory criteria / guidelines, cost controls and reporting etc., thus ensuring that projects meet Vistry's Requirements.
You will need to demonstrate an excellent base level of technical knowledge, including a good working knowledge of the Highways & Drainage, Building Regulations, Planning, and dealing with both Private and Affordable Housing clients.
You will have a good knowledge of the residential development sector is also required, in terms of completion of site appraisals, design guidance, preparation of specification(s), NHBC regulations and planning guidance and policy etc.

Recommend and appointment of consultants.
Control the design process, from planning application through to project completion
Ensure consultants prepare detailed design in accordance with Vistry's Specifications and Standards, Employers Requirement and Contractors Proposals.
Manage and review the design development process ensuring value engineering and buildability are considered.
To ensure timely registration with warranty providers i.e. NHBC, Robust Details and Building Regulation Application.
Manage CDM including the preparation, approval and distribution of the Health and Safety File/Operating and Maintenance Manuals.
To ensure timely completion and issue of technical assessments, Energy & Sustainability information, warranties, certificates and the like.
Review design development to allow construction of works to follow safety working practices and be in accordance with current legislation, Group Policy and Procedures.
Obtain pre-application advice and approvals in principle to both on and off site highway works and to compliance to planning layouts.
An understanding of the Highways Act, Traffic Orders and the various Sectional Agreements, Water Industry Act and the Flood Water Management Act is paramount in undertaking this role. A thorough understanding of S38, S104 & S278 processes is essential.
Liaise with Local Authorities & Utilities Services at all levels, Highways, Street Care, Environmental Services and Planners to discharge Planning Conditions.
Provide Production teams with complete working drawing packages and Technical support to Site Management and Sub-Contractors with details, site queries with regard to all Technical issues.
Regular site visits and reports to ensure construction is in accordance with specifications and details.
Provide fully checked and co-ordinated design packages for Budget, Tender and Construction purposes
To support the achievement of the annual financial budget (operating profit) for the business unit.
To manage the process of designing solutions
To conduct 'value engineering'
