If so, Cardiff and Vale (C&V) Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) & the Memory Team have the perfect job for you As an enthusiastic and motivated SLT with a passion for dementia and mental health, you will be joining our friendly Dementia and Mental Health SLT Team who will support you in your new role via the regular supervision, appraisal and peer support frameworks. There will be ongoing service development projects which you will have the opportunity to participate in as well the opportunity to be involved in exciting research. You will be working with clients across the adult age range including the well-established Young Onset Dementia (YOD) multidisciplinary team and the Community Mental Health Services for Older People. In addition to this, you will be providing post-diagnostic support to patients based in Cardiff, who have recently had a dementia diagnosis from the Memory Team. You will have opportunity to attend diagnostic clinics run out of the Memory Assessment Service and provide in-reach work between SLT teams. This post is split between the Cariad Centre, in Barry Hospital and University Hospital of Llandough (UHL). Main duties of the job Your caseload will be varied and interesting as your clients will present with a wide range of dementia subtypes, and other mental health diagnoses. In this role you will be providing comprehensive swallowing and communication assessments, and holistic management to clients in the community. You will also have the opportunity to develop your inpatient and outpatient experience, which will include time with our inpatient MHSOP wards and the Memory Assessment Service. We aim to provide the highest level of care and achieve a great level of client/carer satisfaction and you will be integral to this. You will also have the exciting opportunity to be part of developing and delivering a new SLT training and education programme to staff and to formal and informal carers of clients within the MHSOP services. You will have the opportunity to bring an innovative approach to training alongside SLT colleagues knowing you are contributing to improving patient care. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. This post Band 6 and is full-time (1.0 WTE), and experienced Band 5 therapists may be considered for the right candidate.
