South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The Sterile Services Department at James Cook Hospital has an exciting opportunity for three motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated people to join our team.
This post will be paid at an Agenda for Change (AfC) Band 2 level for the first 12 months/until the successful candidates are fully trained. Once the candidates are signed off as competent, they will progress to becoming a Sterile Services Technician on an AfC Band 3. The current training provided includes a minimum of:
1. Around 6 months shop floor based training - during which time you will work with a 'buddy' and learn all of the surgical instrumentation names and how to work all machinery within Sterile Services.
2. A period of performance review whilst embedding the training provided.
3. Completion of a City & Guilds qualification in The Principles of Decontamination.
Main Duties of the Job
This service uses a computerized instrument traceability/tracking system which staff will be trained in the use of. One of the staff employed will work initially within our Sterile Services Stores, delivering and collecting clean/dirty surgical instrument sets. This period is likely to last for 3-6 months to cover long term sickness/illness recovery. The appointed postholder will then start to train within the Sterile Services Production Unit and join the other two post holders processing instrumentation sets.
While the base for this role is at James Cook Hospital, the successful candidate may also be expected to work on the Friarage Hospital site. Staff may also be required to work within our Endoscope Decontamination Department on occasion (training will be given).
Some experience in either Sterile Services, Stores, or Endoscope Decontamination would be an advantage, but it is not essential as full training will be provided in role. The successful candidates will be keen to learn and progress in their role to become fully competent Sterile Services Technicians.
It is essential that candidates have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are capable of working in a service driven by deadlines and turnaround times.
Please note this post will close at sufficient applicants.
