Assistant Project Manager (Mechanical)
Location: Client site near Bridgwater TA5 1UD
Certain Advantage is supporting a growing international engineering services contractor that partners with renowned energy and government clients to solve engineering and technological challenges.
The company is heavily involved in supporting a large UK Nuclear Energy customer, delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle.
We have an opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager near Bridgwater, specifically on the HPC build, focusing on the Equipment Programme responsible for delivering the mechanical, electrical, and process equipment for the HPC power station.
The contracts in this programme may involve discrete components or complete systems, delivered in partnership with a global supply chain. Contract values range from £250k to £150m. Design input is provided by the customer's Responsible Designer, with detailed design completed by the equipment supplier.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the Project Manager in delivering the project and contract scope for HPC.
2. Assisting with contract administration activities such as variations, claims, technical queries, and instructions, using CEMAR, with support from a Commercial Manager.
3. Interfacing with key teams to support project delivery.
4. Ensuring compliance with approved procedures.
5. Developing relationships with key stakeholders involved in the HPC project.
6. Supporting technical work streams to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, managing responses to Technical Queries.
7. Contributing to weekly and monthly performance reports.
8. Maintaining live updates of the Project Definition Document.
9. Implementing strategies in line with the Programme Definition Document (PgDD).
10. Maintaining configuration control of Works Information.
Your Experience
* Proven track record of delivering projects in complex, regulated environments, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector.
* Strong management skills in project management, financial management, and change facilitation, with proficiency in estimating, scheduling, and risk tools.
* Experience managing contractors, consultants, and advisors on large construction projects.
* Excellent communication, influencing, and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective networks.
* Degree and chartered status in engineering, construction, physics, or related fields.
* Knowledge of or experience with Project Management methodologies such as APM Body of Knowledge and PRINCE2.
