Systems Engineer
Crawley (hybrid 3 days onsite)
We are looking for two Systems Engineers to work on various Naval Communications programmes within the Thales Naval Communications Portfolio. It will involve joining a team of systems engineers providing support to legacy and future fully integrated communications systems, specifically focused on the tactical voice and communications management systems.
Key responsibilities:
* Gain a detailed technical understanding of the tactical voice and communications management systems, working alongside the existing team, across multiple Naval programmes.
* To support the systems engineering and IVVQ teams through the conduct of test and integration activities.
* To support the systems engineering team through the investigation of issues and the subsequent identification of proposed costed solutions, liaising with both hardware and software engineers as required.
* To update and maintain the design and production baselines, including, specifications, interface control documents, cable data sheets, BOMs and certification documentation liaising with production, the DO and safety engineers as required.
* Provide work package estimates that balance quality, compliance and cost - subsequently discharging assigned work packages to time, quality and cost.
Right for this role?
New to Systems and want to expand on your current knowledge OR are you already a mid-level Systems Engineer and have an interest in Naval Communication Systems.
Ideally you will have:
* Understanding or have an interest of Naval Communications Systems and Equipment.
* Experience or knowledge in supporting the preparation of system and sub-system specifications from customer requirements, and to ensure that the requirements meet the needs of the customer.
* Worked as part of a team to generate a coherent set of specifications, interface documentation and other design artefacts, liaising with other functions and departments as required.
* Understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle including activities such as PDR, CDR, PRR and TRR through the design and development phases into production, integration, verification, validation and acceptance.
* Experience with basic networking principles and implementation - ideally some experience with Cisco or Alcatel programming.
* Experience with both Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
* Fault finding/diagnostic skills across networked equipment.
* Experience of conducting equipment/system testing and integration activities.
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including the RN, international suppliers and field service teams in the field.
