About the Role:
The Station Sports Bar in Bognor Regis is seeking an experienced General Manager with a passion for sports and a hands-on approach to business development. This role requires a strong focus on driving sports engagement, both through TV sports coverage with Sky and TNT Sports and by fostering internal sports teams and competitions. A keen emphasis on community outreach is essential, as we aim to build strong connections within the local area through charity events, community activities, and by cultivating a loyal base of regular customers. This is a live-in opportunity for the right candidate, offering flexibility within a 45-hour workweek. Supported by a seasoned team above, this position provides an exciting chance to make a lasting impression on the business as it moves through an important phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Sports Promotion & Engagement: Create an energetic sports environment by promoting televised sports events and developing in-house sports leagues. Engage with sports enthusiasts and organise events that encourage community participation, driving trade during key sporting events.
* Community Outreach & Local Engagement: Actively reach out to the local community, establishing the bar as a hub for charity events, community gatherings, and special occasions. Develop partnerships with local businesses and groups to build a solid presence within the area.
* Firm but Fair Customer Management: Maintain a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for all guests. Approach any difficult situations or undesirables firmly but fairly, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all guests and reinforcing the bar's reputation as a trusted local venue.
* Marketing & Social Media: Spearhead marketing initiatives, with a strong focus on social media, to increase the visibility of The Station Sports Bar. Drive consistent outward marketing efforts to attract new customers and retain regulars.
* Hands-On Team Leadership: As a “player-manager,” you will lead a small, dedicated team by example. Your duties will include, training, scheduling, and providing day-to-day support to the team, ensuring high standards across all service areas and being the face of The Station.
* Customer Service Excellence: Ensure the bar provides a welcoming and enjoyable environment. Manage customer enquiries or issues professionally, maintaining a high level of customer service at all times.
* Operations Management: Oversee daily operations, including inventory control, supply management, health and safety compliance, and cleanliness. Guarantee operational efficiency in all aspects of the bar.
* Financial Oversight: Manage the bar’s finances by budgeting, tracking sales and expenses, and implementing effective pricing strategies. Identify opportunities to boost profitability through careful financial planning.
* Business Development: Look for opportunities to expand offerings, draw in new customers, and establish connections with the local community, supporting the bar’s growth and increasing its competitive edge.
* Financial Reporting: Provide regular financial and performance reports to upper management, offering insights and recommendations to guide business strategy.
* Training & Development: Lead training initiatives to continually enhance the team’s skills, focusing on customer service, product knowledge, and responsible alcohol service.
