The Role
The newly created Assurance function forms a critical part of the Resources Directorate at Tameside Council. This key leadership role, reporting to the newly appointed Deputy Section 151 Officer, is an opportunity not to be missed for an assurance professional who is already managing or is looking to take the next step in their career towards leading a risk management, internal audit, counter fraud and insurance function in a large and ambitious Council.
Tameside Council is responsible for a net budget of approximately £314m in 2025/26 for delivering services to the residents of Tameside. The Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) has assets in excess of £22 billion, is administered by Tameside Council, and is the largest Local Government Pension Scheme in the country.
As the Head of Assurance your prime goal is to enable the Council and GMPF to achieve their strategic and operational objectives by giving assurance on risk management, governance and internal control arrangements; as well as playing a key role in promoting good corporate governance.
