A 12 year old male, with additional learning needs and autism requires a PA to provide support and companionship in the home and outside in the community. The young person will need someone who is patient and understanding of their needs. The young person requires someone who is encouraging and able to help them engage in activities outside of their home within the community. The young person enjoys video gaming, Marvel and Sci Fi films and tv shows, drawing and designing, drums and guitar and has expressed interest in trying table top gaming such as D&D. The young person needs support to encourage them to partake in activities outside of their home and to meet new people who share similar interests with them.
The young person requires support in terms of needing support to be kept safe in the community due to being vulnerable socially and also requires support with crossing the road, being made aware of their surroundings as they sometimes will not process their surroundings e.g checking before crossing the road. The young person is able to do most aspects of their own personal care needs but needs encouragement and prompting with certain aspects (e.g washing hands after toileting, putting clothing on the right way round, wearing clothing appropriate for the weather).
The young person would prefer a male PA to take them out to activities and to help them engage in new interests and hobbies, these interests could be taking them out to the cinema, places to eat, any clubs or activities that may interest the young person. The young person would like a PA with a good sense of humour and similar interests as them to engage in interesting conversations and to help encourage them to try new activities.
The young person may need a lot of encouragement and support to try new things and may become reluctant to leave the home to go to new places/activities if they are not sure of what the activity entails. The PA will need to work with the young person’s family to help encourage them and support them to engage with community and outdoor based activities. The young person can become anxious of new places and also has sensory issues to noises, textures and tastes which the PA needs to be aware of when out in the community .
The PA position is currently for 3 hours a week, with the option of what day may work best for them and the young person. If the young person feels that they are benefitting from spending time with the PA further hours may become available in the future for the PA.
