At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.
In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.
Job overview
You will be joining a friendly and supportive Acute Frailty team and working closely alongside a highly skilled team within a medical acute assessment unit. The Physician Associate (PA) will work under the direction and supervision of the relevant Consultant(s) adhering to Trust policies and clinical guidelines. In Acute Frailty, the PA works collaboratively with team members in acute medicine, the PA will identify appropriate patients and begin a comprehensive geriatric assessment to compliment the initial doctor assessment in the emergency department or acute assessment unit or when required in the emergency department. All cases are reviewed by geriatrician of the day. The Physician Associate will be responsible for ensuring that patient care for service users with complex co-morbidities is of high standards at all times and that treatment meets the department’s requirements. The post holder will work with the department team to take forward best practice and education within the Directorate.
Main duties of the job
To clinically assess and examine appropriate patients with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge within a defined scope of practice as agreed by the supervising Consultant.
Develop specialist knowledge and experience in acute frailty, acting as a resource to others.
To participate in daily ward rounds as appropriate.
To manage clinical caseloads daily, helping to identify suitable patients for early discharge.
Ensure clear communication with patients and their families at all times and all information is shared.
Liaise with healthcare professionals to ensure the management plan is robust and an MDT approach utilised to ensure a safe and timely discharge.
Additional duties as directed by line manager or supervising Consultant.
Ensuring clear and accurate documentation at all times.

Qualifications
* BSc Degree prior to undertaking PA programme
* PG Diploma or MSc in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised UK training programme with relevant practical experience
* Current and valid certification or certification.
* Registration with UK Managed Voluntary Registry for Physician Associates
* Commitment to continuing medical education and professional development in accordance with the criteria for Physician Associate.
* BLS, ILS, ALS
* Communication Skills Training
Experience
* Experience of working with patients in a relevant department.
* Pre-registration experience in a range of clinical departments
* Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, nurses, other staff and agencies
* Experience of working in a team.
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
* Experience of participating in research
* Assist in the educational development of Physician Associate students through student shadowing and/or teaching
