Job Advert - Band 8a Under fives clinician (acting up)
Open to: Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, Clinical/Counselling Psychologists, Family Therapists, Mental Health Nurses with additional work experience with the under-fives and ideally the perinatal population It is essential that the post-holder is registered with the relevant professional organisation.
This is a six- month acting up opportunity for internal candidates.We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and creative clinician from within ELFT CAMHS to come and work in collaboration with the local authority, London Borough of Newham and the CAMHS Under-fives pathway. The post holder will work two days in the community setting in Children’s Centres /Family Hubs and two days in the clinic based within the Under Fives Pathway which has been developed by the Child Psychotherapy team. The post holder will be a member of the Emotional and Behavioural Team offering brief interventions to Under-fives and their parents/carers.
This post is aimed at clinicians focused on innovative ways of working with Under-fives in a community setting with the aim of reaching those presenting with mild to moderate emotional difficulties in order to enhance the universal offer in the borough.
The post holder will understand and have experience of offering treatments to this population providing the benefits of brief early intervention. Therapeutic experience of working with parents and their infants/ young children is essential. Experience of working alongside young child care providers is also essential.
The post holder will also work as part of the well-established and growing Parent-Infant Psychotherapy service and Under-fives pathway which currently sits within the Child Psychotherapy team and the Emotional and behavioural pathway in order to provide a specialist perinatal assessment and treatment service within Newham CAMHS.
The post holder will sit within both the Child Psychotherapy Team and the Emotional and Behavioural Team pathway at Newham CAMHS. Clinical supervision will be provided by a senior Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who is also an experienced Parent-Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

Newham CAMHS is a multi-disciplinary team with a Care Pathway model of service delivery. The team consists of Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists, Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Specialist Mental Health Nurses, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists, Family Therapists, Education Mental Health Practitioners, Children’s Well-being Practitioners and Administrative staff who are committed to developing innovative and effective ways of working. This is a busy, interesting, and varied role working with children and their families primarily presenting with mild to moderate emotional issues at the point of contact in the community and within Core CAMHS treatment pathways.
The post-holder will contribute to a positive working environment within the Emotional and Behavioural pathway multi-disciplinary team of which they will be a member. In this team, the post-holder will be offering triages andpsychological assessments of referred children, parents or carers via digital platforms and in-person. The post-holder will work to maintain key relationships with the wider professional early years network in Newham.
The post-holder will provideconsultation to other colleagues in the community, and assist the Principal Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in Service Development. The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit. The post-holder will produce reports on developments within the Under-fives pathway for Newham CAMHS managers and multi-agency partners.
