REGISTERED MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Registered Manager
Reports to: Responsible Individual/HS
Accountable to: RI
Scope of Post
The Registered Manager is required to provide effective leadership, governance and management. It is their responsibility to secure, sustain and promote the reputation of the home. To ensure the delivery of high-quality holistic care and support, creating a caring environment conducive to individual needs and practice research development, within the framework of quality assurance.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To ensure that agreed quality assurance initiatives are implemented within the home.
2. Liaise with social care regulators and local authorities to ensure satisfactory standards are maintained.
3. To become the person in charge responsible for the day-to-day running of the home with 24-hour responsibility for the care of the service users.
4. To be the Information Governance Lead for their home and to work in collaboration with the Company’s Information Governance Lead, being accountable to the Senior Operations Team.
5. To provide improvement, independence and choice for Service Users, making sure they are treated with dignity at all times.
6. To manage the effective use of resources and maintain high levels of occupancy.
7. To comply with all regulatory requirements at all times and in particular the Regulations for the Registration and Inspection of Care Homes.
8. To ensure policies and procedures are implemented and understood by all staff to ensure the highest standard of care.
Leadership
1. To work with Head of Service to provide leadership to operational staff in order to deliver the highest possible quality of care within a safe working and living environment.
2. To be a good model for all employees, being approachable and providing a regular presence on the “shop floor” as well as being consistent in all actions and decisions.
3. To set and maintain clear standards of care within the home in line with HCC policies and procedures.
4. To work with Head of Service to ensure that staff selection processes are applied thoroughly and that all candidates are treated professionally. To ensure all staff maintain registration with their national bodies.
5. To support the development of a culture of continuous quality improvement using the framework of clinical governance.
6. Take responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional, competent and high-quality care.
7. To conduct regular reviews with new employees during their probationary period and to always conduct a three-monthly review to confirm the appointment or extend the probation period.
8. To ensure all staff receive consistent supervision and are annually appraised, managing under-performance through objective setting and regular reviews.
9. To ensure complaints and suggestions are positively actioned and dealt with correctly.
10. To identify individual training needs in line with the Home’s objectives and the employee’s performance, arranging training and evaluating their effectiveness.
11. To hold regular staff/service user meetings and stakeholder meetings, providing and receiving feedback, and administering the questionnaires provided as part of the company’s Quality Assurance Systems.
Care Practice
1. Ensure that all service users have an up-to-date care plan, which is regularly evaluated and actively involves Service Users in the preparation.
2. Ensure all risks associated with care (e.g., moving and handling, mobility, challenging behaviour) are identified and correctly actioned.
3. Regularly monitor the delivery of support given by all staff, ensuring that the physical, social, psychological, and emotional needs of service users are recognised, assessed and met.
4. Ensure HCC’s residential home, its processes, policies and procedures are fully compliant with Ofsted regulation and the Mental Capacity Act, amongst other relevant legislation.
5. Ensure service users are empowered to make choices where able and where not, best interest decisions are made on their behalf involving all those concerned.
6. Ensure the Home is compliant with DoLS legislation.
7. Ensure that there is a regular programme of activities, which are arranged in line with the service users’ needs.
8. Ensure the service users receive a pleasant nutritional diet.
9. Ensure an active key worker system for all the service users.
10. Ensure the maintenance of the highest standards of support.
