The Intensive support team (IST) is a team working with children and young people up to the age of 18 with Autism and Learning disabilities (LD) who may present with associated mental health needs. We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic occupational therapist with a keenness and ability to integrate their current skill set and support the ongoing development of this small but dynamic team.
Main duties of the job
Within this post we are looking to recruit an occupational therapist who will work with the intensive support team for children and young people to deliver specialist intervention services. With the view to Managing a caseload under supervision from Team Lead Occupational Therapists working across the All-age Intensive Support Team Pathway, the post holder will offer a wide range of clinical interventions to meet the needs of the young people and their families we work with. The post holder will also work as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team, providing advice to the multidisciplinary team as required. The role will also support leadership and provide clinical supervision to junior staff and undertake a practice placement educator role where necessary, the post holder will also be expected to allocate work to Assistant Practitioners and offer ongoing support on a daily basis to junior members of the team, as well as undertaking supervision and appraisal where appropriate. The post will have active links with, and support from the adult intensive support teams as well as the wider CAMHS Services and professionals across the whole of the Black Country healthcare Trust.

Job responsibilities
* To manage a clinical caseload for children and young people under 18 years of age who have a learning Disability/ Autism spectrum condition diagnosis requiring occupational assessment and treatment interventions within community settings. This will also include people who have behaviours that challenge and /or mental health needs.
* The post holder will be a key member of the Multi-Disciplinary and Occupational Therapy Team and will contribute under supervision to the overall management and development of occupational therapy services. He/she will liaise with other disciplines and services to ensure service delivery is seamless and person centred.
* The Occupational Therapist will be an integrated member of the multi-professional Learning Disability and Mental Health Team and support the provision of and access to Learning Disability and/or Mental Health services.
* The Occupational Therapist will be able to conduct comprehensive assessment with patients and families/carers, including the use of specific occupational focussed assessments and case formulation
* To support the leadership of a needs led service developing and delivering evidenced based and outcome focussed therapeutic interventions in response to service user need.
* To contribute to meeting professional, service and Trust wide and national standards.
* Ensures timely response according to service standards to referrals to the Inpatient service.
* Autonomous responsibility for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous client records, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professional and legal requirements.
* To maintain a professional portfolio for CPD recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities, ensuring that practice is evidence based.
* Contributes to the wider OT service development, including audit, research and evaluation.
* To adhere to the COT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, HCPC standards and all trust relevant policies and procedures
* To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality Intensive Support Team for the all age population.

Person Specification
IST Band 6 OT criteria
* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of registration with the HCPC
* Post graduate training relevant to Learning Disability / mental health
* Evidence of managing caseloads with adults with Learning Disability / mental health problems
* Significant post registration experience of working with children with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health conditions
* Knowledge and application of OT assessment and intervention in children and young people with Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnoses and mental health needs
* Sensory Integration Training
* Significant experience of supervising junior staff and of being a Placement Educator
* Evidence of managing service users who present with complex needs and behaviours that challenge
