Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
Our mission is to make a difference and to shape a better, more sustainable world. We aim to be the water consultant of choice – delivering outstanding service and adding value to our clients.
The Opportunity
Across the West of the UK, we have a team of 150+ multi-disciplinary water engineers working closely together on a wide variety of flood and coastal risk management, waste and clean water infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets. Our work is hugely rewarding, making a positive difference to people and the environment as well as pushing the boundaries of digital innovation. With secured frameworks, we have a strong forward pipeline of opportunities with clients who share our passion for shaping a better world such as Welsh Water. We are seeking a senior process engineer to help lead our municipal wastewater treatment schemes.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about water treatment, communities and the environment as this role will be supporting a range of projects including treatment upgrades for water quality improvements, supporting water company long term strategies and assessing new treatment technologies and approaches.
You will be an active member of our growing process team in Cardiff working on a varied workload of wastewater schemes varying from root cause, feasibility and optioneering to detailed design. As part of a multi-disciplinary design team you will collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical engineers and construction partners to deliver wastewater treatment schemes from option selection through to commissioning. The role is very client focused to bring the client along with the design process, informing them of key design decisions and communicating progress. This role also brings the potential of future leadership opportunities, building on our current business in the wastewater sector.
Is this role right for you?
We are keen to speak to people who have worked in engineering roles within the water sector and possess knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, including innovative technologies and approaches, and the municipal UK wastewater treatment landscape.
The suitable candidate will hold a relevant degree and ideally Chartered Engineer status with familiarity with UK water industry regulations and compliance standards.
We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:
1. Experience of analysing flow and load data and flow and load determination and forecasting.
2. The ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team developing high quality process design deliverables, including detailed mass balance.
3. Ability to analyse and forecast flows and loads.
4. Competence in developing detailed process design deliverables, including mass balances and P&IDs.
5. Experience participating in HazOP studies.
6. Proficiency in optimising treatment processes for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact.
