An Exciting Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Risk Underwriting Team in Cardiff as an Underwriter. This role will give you the chance to work in a dynamic, friendly and experienced team of 13 staff underwriting the African and Israeli markets. This Risk Team is part of a broader region comprising of NL (Netherlands), AIM (Africa, India, Middle East) and APAC (Asia Pacific), covering 122 countries across 17 locations. So a very international unit active in 8 time zones, by staff with approximately 25 nationalities speaking 38 languages.
Your buyer portfolio will be spread across a variety of sectors and markets and will allow you to expand your underwriting skills and horizons, including political risk and export underwriting. You will also have your own portfolio of markets to monitor and communicate on. Our markets are gaining more and more interest from our multinational customers, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with our Global unit and with various Commercial Units across the globe to strengthen Atradius’ position in those markets. You will also work in close cooperation with our strategic partners CGIC in South Africa and CLAL in Israel, and with our Spanish counterparts CyC who are an important stakeholder in our North African markets.
The role offers exciting travel opportunities to do market, buyer, customer and/or partner visits in our region. From the start, you will obtain a Personal Development Plan and support from the team to learn and grow in the role. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the business as the Cardiff office also houses the UK domestic underwriting team (RS4), Credit Specialities, UK Global, UK Commercial, Collections, Claims and IT. Job Description
The Risk Underwriter is responsible for reviewing credit limit requests from both new and existing customers and for monitoring his/her buyer portfolio through annual and ad-hoc reviews (e.g. torpedo / watch list / sector / market reviews). Both include financial and political risk analysis and applying underwriting principles and guidelines to support a new risk or modify an existing strategy. Some cases will require submissions to Senior Management or Credit Committee for sign-off. Where required, the Risk Underwriter will undertake calls with buyers to discuss their financial position or material sector / market events. The Risk Underwriter will also occasionally attend calls with customers to present our underwriting approach of certain markets or discuss specific buyers. The Risk Underwriter is also responsible for monitoring developments in his/her markets, presenting at Country Committee and to customers as/when required, and updating internal Country Underwriting Guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
1. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to organise and prioritise tasks to meet multiple targets and deadlines
2. Ability to assimilate information and process workflow items quickly and to arrive at decisions promptly without detriment to quality
3. Ability to focus on customer service with a positive attitude and proactive approach
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to attend buyer and customer calls, present underwriting cases and markets at Credit and Country Committees and discuss complex risk issues clearly and confidently
5. An understanding of worldwide economics and an interest in worldwide current affairs
6. Candidates should be aware that the position involves overseas travel to the main markets we cover
Preferable / Desirable
1. Experience within the trade credit insurance industry
2. A degree in Finance / Economics / Business
3. Knowledge of relevant analytical techniques and ability to critically review financial statements and interpret external reports
4. An additional language used in the markets we cover
