This post will be based within the Primary Care team, providing Occupational Therapy for prisoners at HMP Woodhill. The post-holders will be responsible for the provision of OT to prisoners presenting with complex needs, that can be compounded by their environment. This post will include individual work, developing a group work program and liaising with external agencies to meet the needs of individuals and promote health within the prison.
The post will involve delivery of the OT provision to a designated caseload, focusing on functional ability and participation in meaningful activity. This will include the assessment, treatment and evaluation of clinical interventions, planning and running a range of therapeutic individual and group work, carrying out functional assessments and contributing to multidisciplinary team care planning and risk assessment. The individual will also develop health promotion initiatives within the prison in line with national drivers and local need. The post holder will be working closely with the local Social care provider and other external providers.
Main Duties of the Job
* To be responsible for the Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation of an allocated clinical caseload.
* To be responsible for planning, providing and evaluating group and individual intervention within the service.
* To ensure clear handover of risk and health are shared with the team, and where necessary the prison, to ensure safe and effective practice.
* To ensure that any relevant information regarding risk and health, pertaining to custodial management is shared with the establishment.
* To carry out standardised assessments and provide detailed feedback to the multidisciplinary team about clients' abilities and also information about future plans and requirements for progress.
* To take a client-centred approach in all possible occasions.
* To prompt and motivate the clients to engage in opportunities and activities that support wellbeing.
* To communicate treatment plans and clinical reasoning for interventions to other members of the multidisciplinary team and to work in collaboration with other disciplines and staff in clinical work.
* To maintain a flexible approach to sessions, modifying activities according to the fluctuating clinical presentation of individual clients and the needs of the service.

Job Responsibilities
As part of this role you will be expected to support some physical health interventions such as medication management. This will contribute to the overall MDT objectives; however, you will have discipline protected time. You will also participate in Prison wide meetings and forums to support the wellbeing and risk management of prisoners.

There is an offender care OT clinical lead and network to support development and link in with OTs across our Health and Justice services.
Successful candidates will have strong engagement and motivation skills and be able to work well with people with complex needs and challenging behaviour. They must also have effective written and verbal communication skills. A working knowledge of occupational therapy theory and processes is also essential.

Education and Qualifications
* HPCP Registered Practitioner Occupational Therapist
* Evidence of professional development since registration
* Post registration qualification that enhances clinical work such as health promotion
Previous Experience
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working with complex clients
* Experience of running a group program
* Experience of leading and/or developing a service/component of a service
* Experience of working in a Prison or forensic environment
* Experience of working in Primary Care
