Job Description
We are a global leader in specialized components and subsystems for innovative solutions in medical, science, aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Our products are found in various industries, including hospitals, aircraft, ships, and outer space.
This role involves designing compact, high-reliability, high-voltage (5-10kV) systems for airborne military applications, specifying design requirements to meet system specifications, and providing technical documentation support. Key drivers are ultra-small volume, versatility, and high reliability.
General Accountabilities:
* Design circuits and sub-systems to meet customer requirements, ensuring a reliable, manufacturable product that meets cost targets.
* Provide fast, accurate, and technically competent resolution of technical issues during development, production, and service.
* Verify circuit and systems design through simulation, practical testing, and environmental testing.
* Consider regulatory, legislative, environmental, and safety standards in design.
* Underwrite changes to product build standard post-launch due to continuous improvement, obsolescence, legislation, or regulatory changes.
* Identify intellectual property/patent issues and opportunities, assessing them and driving claims as required.
* Regularly review the product market and technology advancements to identify opportunities for new products and/or upgrades, working with business leadership to develop these into future developments.
Skills and Experience:
* Expert knowledge in power electronic systems design: Switch Mode PSU design, PCB Design, high-frequency digital and analogue circuits in MILSPEC applications, high-frequency magnetic components (transformers), high voltage and high power experience ideal – 3 to 10kV, 500W to 2kW.
* Experience in design for Reliability (MTBF) in electronic systems.
* Awareness of electronics encapsulation in demanding environments.
* Experience in analysis of design failure mechanisms using DfMEA/FMECA.
* Demonstrates clear understanding of electrical safety demands and models safe working practices.
* Knowledge of PCB layout tools and manufacturing techniques or similar for schematic capture & Mathcad.
