Job Description
Early Years Support Assistant – FTC (7/07626) (Fixed Term)
St Andrew’s RC Nursery is seeking an Early Years Support Assistant to fill a maternity leave absence. You will be required to work 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, with the work pattern to be discussed at interview. This post will be fixed term for up to one year.
St Andrew’s RC Nursery caters for children aged 3-5 years old. We strive to provide an enriching, nurturing environment both indoors and outdoors to help promote children's independence and curiosity.
This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
Applicants should be educated to SCQF level 6 in Social Services, Children & Young People or equivalent. We require someone who can adapt quickly to fulfilling the educational and social needs of pupils in our Nursery and who will play an active role in our staff team. The successful candidate will display the appropriate professional skills, abilities, knowledge, and understanding. You must be able to participate in the implementation of the curriculum development within our nursery class while following the appropriate school policies on learning, including pupil assessment. You should be able to work collaboratively with staff in school, with colleagues in other establishments and agencies, consulting regularly with parents and carers.
Early Years Support Assistant applicants must hold a relevant qualification that enables registration with The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Support Worker in Day Care Children’s Services (without conditions). Successful applicants for early education and childcare posts will be required to register with the SSSC within 3 months.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
