URGENT HIRE:
Patriot Broadband Construction has an immediate need for an experienced Fiber Splicer Technician to add to the talented team reporting out of Rutland, Vermont. Do you enjoy traveling to different job locations, having autonomy and variety in your workday, and getting to work outdoors? This role will also perform tasks unrelated to fiber splicing, such as work related to the build-out phase of telecom construction and coax work.
Our professionals operate bucket trucks, climb poles, and trench fiber cabling. The Fiber Technician will have a strong understanding of service operations in the telecommunications industry and will use effective communication to foster a positive team culture and work around different personalities. A Fiber Technician supports the splicing, terminating, bonding, grounding, testing, and documentation process of all fiber cables within the fiber optic network.
Ideal Candidates will have:
1. 3+ years relevant industry experience as a HFC/CATV OSP Fiber Splicer,
2. A HS diploma/GED and additional training (either OJT or technical),
3. A valid driver's license,
4. The ability to pass ongoing criminal background checks per requirements of contracts, Motor Vehicle Records checks, pre-employment and random drug screenings, and obtain a DOT Medical Card,
5. The physical ability to push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds or more, climb into and out of equipment, and a willingness to work overnight as cable maintenance and/or outages require.
6. A climbing certificate is beneficial and knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and related state and local codes.
7. Experience with easement work is a plus!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Some of the required skills for this role are the ability to read and interpret fiber codes and schematics, HFC maps and engineering plans, place both aerial and underground splice closures along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables, use fusion/mass fusion splicing machines, operate OTDR's and power meters, and proficiently troubleshoot, repair and test cables with standard tools including OTDR's, light meters and signal strength meters. Proficient with hot cuts, maintenance window, CO/NOC communications with tester/MSO technician.
Work Environment:
All work is outdoors, so employees in this role are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, which can include but are not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, sleet, snow, dust, as well as adverse driving conditions. Ability and willingness to traverse and work on challenging terrain.
