Maintenance Assistant Higher Level (Days)

The post holders will form part of the existing team responsible for the engineering maintenance of the Trust. Maintenance assistants will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialist skills. They will however, progressively be suitably trained to acquire elements of each other's skills, with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the summary duties listed below.
As the post holder will be meeting patients and members of the public, a smart appearance and courteous disposition is needed.
Main duties of the job
A supporting member of the engineering team, in ensuring the day-to-day efficient and safe working of all engineering plant on site.
1. Comply in all aspects with the department's Health and Safety policies, demonstrating a basic knowledge of electrical and workshop safety, being responsible from time to time for trainees, school pupils on work-experience and the general public.
2. Be accountable for your own actions, when undertaking unsupervised work.
3. Undertake training as necessary and in particular on the provisions of the HSC Approved Code of Practice for the Control of Legionella (L8) and/or for the operation and maintenance of the Trust's Access Control System as well as on site Medical Gases.
Job responsibilities
1. To assist electrical and mechanical engineering trades staff in general maintenance duties, including planned.
2. Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance work and minor repairs within the level of competence and skill that the postholder is able to demonstrate.
3. Work under the supervision of fully qualified Craftsmen in more complex installation and new works.
4. To carry out some plumbing repairs in patient and staff areas.
5. Undertake internal and external lamp changing and various lighting repairs without supervision.
6. Undertake electrical and mechanical safety checks and repairs to domestic equipment without supervision. Enter test data on a computer based database.
7. To undertake the computerised Building Management System.
8. Undertake some welding/fabrication work within level of competence.
9. To perform routine work as required, including general cleaning of plant rooms and workshops.
10. To undertake any duties as may reasonably be required (including cover).
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* A working knowledge of a range of engineering maintenance procedures for different trades gained through practical experience.
Experience
* Previous experience and working knowledge of engineering equipment and tools gained through hands-on experience of working with and supporting qualified engineering trades.
Planning & Organisation Skills
* Ability to organise own day to day work tasks or activities.
