Mechanical Fitter

Salary - up to £43,448 + overtime (OTE of £7,500 in overtime)
Location: Hanningfield (Essex – CM3 8BD) (Mobile Worker with van and fuel card provided)
We are looking to recruit an experienced industrial installation mechanical technician (mechanical fitter) to work in the Integrated Design & Delivery team. Reporting to a team manager, you will, as part of a team, be required to successfully scope and design solutions to identified issues and then carry out installations and modifications of mechanical equipment to a high professional standard.
You will be responsible for liaising with asset owners to efficiently deliver low to medium complexity installations on Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) operational sites while safeguarding the site process.
ESW offers support and training so that you will be competent in designing, installing, commissioning mechanical components/machinery as appropriate. You will be issued a laptop and smartphone, allowing you to access relevant software packages to support your role and communicate effectively with the project teams.
Working on multiple sites, with no one day being the same provides a very interesting working environment. You will be presented with unique challenges whether it’s using your expertise to plan a job or deliver a high standard installation within an agreed time and budget. All tools, PPE, and equipment are provided supporting our technicians in their daily role.
You will be a fully mobile worker covering the ESW region, starting and finishing from home. At ESW we recognise potential, offering development and growth opportunities for people to progress internally. With our committed leadership and close-knit teams, you will never be short of support during your time here.
Please note that once all core and competency training is complete, the role requires that you work an occasional standby attracting a standby payment to cover the team's installation projects out of hours; however, we will ensure that you have the experience required to do this. Competitive rates for additional payments are made for callouts and any additional hours worked.
About you
You’ll be a time-served mechanical technician (fitter) educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in mechanical engineering. You’ll be able to demonstrate an installation and/or maintenance background. You will be responsible for managing your time efficiently with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will be competent in reading and understanding installations from mechanical drawings, identify the source of issues, and identifying potential installation solutions. Ideally, you’ll be familiar with pumps and other mechanical equipment but have the desire to expand your skill-set with core and module-based training which can further improve earning potential with the majority of our Technicians attaining two technical modules attracting circa £3,000 in salary payment.
We are looking for candidates with a can-do attitude, willingness to learn, and explore new ways of working. A hands-on practical approach and keen eye for identifying the root cause whilst investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role.
You’ll have excellent communication skills both written and verbally and be a strong team player. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture. A basic level understanding of Microsoft Office packages including Outlook e-mail, Excel, and Word is desirable as is contractor engagement, but these skills can be developed with the right candidate.
A full, UK driving license is essential and you will have full responsibility and use of a company van during working hours.
Diversity, Inclusion and Equity means bringing your full self to work. We encourage and welcome applications from all underrepresented groups, as we believe and strive for community representation within all our teams, structures, and organisation.
