The Role
The Sports Centre Management Team is currently seeking experienced Lifeguards to support the front-line team of Duty Managers & Recreation Assistants. They will be required to cover occasional hours as and when required on a rota which includes evenings and weekend work (5 in 7 days).
The post holder must have a valid lifeguard award (STA/RLSS) with up-to-date records of in-house Lifeguard training undertaken during the period in which the qualification has been held.
Duties involve working primarily within the Swimming Pool, Sports Cage and Dome, supervising the facilities to prevent accidents and incidents, performing pool checks, occasional reception requests dealing with bookings and payments. Light cleaning duties and assisting members and colleagues with various other tasks are also expected.
The post holder must be customer-focussed, having tolerance and the ability to work cheerfully within a small team. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with students in a fitness and leisure-based environment.

What you’ll do
* Provide supervision for the swimming pool and ensure that health and safety measures are met for all pool users.
* Ensure correct erecting/dismantling of equipment to maximise efficiency of the activity and club programmes.
* Work as part of a team that consistently delivers exceptional service that is unique and superior to competitors.
* Work on a busy reception desk assisting with phone calls, booking requests, policing of access to facilities and activities and other service-related duties.
* To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

The position is physically demanding therefore it is essential that the successful applicant has an appropriate level of health and fitness. Appointment to this position may be subject to a satisfactory fitness assessment.
Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required
Essential
1. Hold a recognised UK Lifeguard Award (NARS/RLSS).
2. Hold up to date in-house training records undertaken during the period of qualification.
3. Be able to function as a “team-player” within a small closely-knit team. The wider structure would include the management team, gym staff, departmental secretary, personal trainers and part-time instructors.
4. Possess excellent interpersonal skills as there is a high amount of contact time face-to-face with customers and staff of the Centre. Effective communication and the ability to understand a wide range of cultures in a diverse community are essential.
5. Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B1 or evidence to demonstrate an on-going commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
Desirable
1. Have over 12 months experience as a lifeguard.
2. Relevant First Aid or AED qualification.
3. Have additional fitness industry/coaching qualifications.
4. Welsh Desirable level (oral and written): B2.
