Swimming is a vital life skill, and we are looking for suitably qualified applicants to join us on a part-time basis to help us ensure that lessons are available for leaners of all ages and abilities across our community.
Hours, Pay and Benefits
Pay: £13.27 per hour
Hours: We currently have a number of shifts we are looking to fill at both locations, as listed below. There will also be the opportunity to cover other shifts during times of absence.
Shifts Available:
1. Wednesday 16:00-18:15 (2.25 hours) - Regional Pool & Tennis Centre
2. Thursday 16:30-19:15 (2.75 hours) - Active Living Centre
3. Friday 16:00-19:45 (3.75 hours) at Active Living Centre (x2 positions)
4. Friday 16:00-18:15 (2.25 hours) at Regional Pool & Tennis Centre
5. Friday 16:00-19:45 (3.75 hours) at Regional Pool & Tennis Centre
6. Saturday 08:00-15:15 (6.75 hours) at Active Living Centre
7. Saturday 09:00-13:15 (4.25 hours) at Regional Pool & Tennis Centre
8. Sunday 08:00-15:15 (5.75 hours) at Active Living Centre
9. Sunday 09:00-13:15 (4.25 hours) at Regional Pool & Tennis Centre

Key Experiences and Qualifications
Essential
10. ASA/STA Level 2 Swim Teacher qualification (we will also consider applications from those qualified and Level 1 and wishing to progress to Level 2)
11. Relevant coaching experience
12. Practical knowledge of the Learn to Swim Wales programme
13. Knowledge and understanding of child protection policies in a swimming pool environment
14. Experience in organising, planning and delivering structured swimming sessions, whilst adapting to varying needs, abilities, and ages
Beneficial
15. STA/RLSS Lifesaving Teacher qualification
16. Relevant adult and child teaching qualification
17. Experience working with people with a disability in sport
18. Ability to communicate in Welsh
Role Requirements
Our swimming teachers are pivotal members of the team, delivering and maintaining effective and high-quality swimming lessons for children, young people, and adults, as part of our Integrated Swimming Programme, which is run at both the Regional Pool & Tennis Centre (located in Newport International Sports Village) and the Active Living Centre (located in Newport High School).
Main duties include:
19. Teaching swim lessons following the new Learn to Swim Wales teaching framework, as part of the City's Integrated Swimming Programme
20. Prepare, implement, and evaluate schemes of work in order to ensure continual development of all swim learners
21. Maintain accurate records of all participants, including attendance, attainment, and progress
22. Promote swimming and help provide links to relevant aquatic clubs to children and parents who attend the weekly Learn to Swim programme
23. Safe preparation of facilities and equipment as required by the Learn to Swim programme, and for checking set-up of facilities and equipment undertaken by Recreation Assistants
24. Ensuring safe compliance with all statutory legal requirements, and in particular the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and Child Protection Act
25. Willingness to assist in organising and delivering swimming galas and events
26. Undertake training as/when required as part of the Swimming Development continual development programme
27. Attend swim teachers' forums/meetings as and when requested
