Overview
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking two fixed-term contact Private Sector Housing Officers to carry out enforcement functions, including enabling the Council to meet its statutory obligations of private sector housing through inspection, enforcement, education, and advice. The role operates in a customer-facing front-line environment representing Harrow Council in often challenging circumstances, performing enforcement functions between 25% to 40% from an office base and between 60% to 75% from site-based visits to premises in Harrow Council while carrying appropriate equipment. The officers will work as part of an enforcement team in accordance with statutory requirements and in compliance with relevant Council policies and procedures, representing the Council as duly authorised Officers to educate and work in partnership with relevant internal and external organisations to enhance the safety and wellbeing of the public.
The post holder will be focused on investigating unlicensed houses of multiple occupancy and other residential licences to bring the properties into compliance.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
1. Good knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the Private Sector Housing Team.
2. Full current driving licence.
3. Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment, independently and as a team.
4. High standard of written and verbal presentation and communication skills.
5. Competence in the use of standard computer systems.
6. Aptitude for the technical and legal aspects of the discipline.
7. Inclusive team worker who can foster collaborative partnerships across teams to achieve desired outcomes.
8. Ability to work outside normal working hours as may be necessary, including response to emergency situations.
